Kite spots: Between the 2 islands of Raiatea and Tahaa, there are a few good kite spots worth noting: "By the Motu near the Uturoa Harbor" and "Raiatea backside". Details will follow...
Winds: Average winds: 15-25 knots. Best time of year to kite: USUALLY, June through August during the Mara'amu, but "El Nino" has been playing havoc with wind dependability... During 2002, June was dead, but the winds kicked on strong in September and October!
(See our Winds: An overview for all Polynesian islands section for more insight)
Local flyers: There are roughly 10 active kiters on Raiatea and ? on Tahaa. One name we can think of is: Moana Boubee... there are others...
Island kite particulars worth noting: Really nice spot in the shared lagoon to kite, town of Uturoa for kite groceries, great place to stay (Sunset Beach Motel) for kiters...
Where to stay on Raiatea and Tahaa: See: www.raiatea.com/tostay.html
